There were times
when we used to joke about using a chopper to get around
Bangalore’s traffic-clogged streets.
Now that may not be a joke any longer,
if reports are to be believed.
The state government is planning to introduce heli-taxis
for transporting harried Bangalore
ans to the Kempegowda International Airport.
The Ministry of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha,
said that the heli-taxi service would be available from November 2017 onward.
Initially, the choppers would fly from Electronics City to the airport.
And what about the cost?
Sinha said that the cost would be similar to that of a luxury taxi.
We did the math and found out that luxury taxis from Electronics City
to the airport cost around Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.
We know that we wouldn’t mind shelling out that much
if it means getting to the airport in a jiffy!
The heli-taxi service would be operated by Thumby Aviation Pvt. Ltd.
Sinha says that the route would be expanded to include
Whitefield and the old HAL Airport Road as well.
Thumby Aviation has two Bell 412 helicopters
that can take up to 13 passengers and Bell 407
choppers that can carry five passengers.
Once Thumby receives the standard regulatory approvals,
we could be in for a smooth flight even before we take off!
