Admit it,
as adorable as kids and babies might be and traveling with kids,
is a whole new challenge altogether.
It can be exhausting and a vacation might not really end being a vacation.
But that need not be the case always.
Here are our five secret tips for having an enjoyable travelling with kids.
New Place, New Rules
The rules set for routine home life may make kids throw tantrums. Soften a little, allow them to do things that you usually wouldn’t at home.
Allow them small joys. Let them have that extra ice-cream, or watch television past their bedtime.
Make it clear that the rules will change once you return home but for now it’s fun time for everyone.
Slow Things Down While Planning Your Itinerary
Travelling with kids on board your itinerary cannot be as fast paced as it would be on a solo trip or an all-adults trip.
Incorporate children’s activities in your itinerary and take your child’s personality under consideration while doing so.
Planning a museum outing might not sit well with your car-crazy son, for instance.
Bring New or Favourite Toys
This is perhaps the most useful tip for everyone who is planning on holidaying and travelling with kids.
As soon as you see the onset of a meltdown, reveal the secret weapon.
New or favourite toys or books can immediately divert attention and occupy kids for some time, allowing you to keep peace in public or otherwise.
Indulge in Family Games
Long waiting times at airports or unending road trips can be tough on children.
Design some simple family games ready for such times when boredom takes a toll and some serious distraction as a group is required.
A Travel Journal
No matter the age kids always love it when they are made to feel important.
Depending on the age, encourage them to draw or paint or scribble in a travel journal.
Give them ideas, point out things, and they will be only too excited to have a “secret diary” all to themselves.
