How many times did you plan a vacation only to end up canceling it due to travelling with pets?
You were too hesitant to leave your adorable pet behind for travelling?
Pet owners in India often have to face a lot of hassle before considering going on a trip.
The constant anxiety about what those little creatures are doing at home does not help much either.
In addition to it, there is a dearth of pet care centers in India which does not leave much else to to do and either hand them over to relatives or to stop traveling altogether!
India may not be exactly pet-friendly compared to international standards and traveling with pets has definitely been easier in the recent years.
Here is how you can now do travelling with your pets and have a peaceful vacation.
A Visit to the Vet
Traveling with Pets or animals are not spared the hassle of paperwork before setting out for a trip.
Get all the necessary health certificates, along with a letter from the vet which states that your pet is completely ready to travelling.
Avoid sedating your agitated pets and give them a natural pet calmer instead.
If your furry friend is prone to motion sickness and make sure not to feed them right before the travelling with pets journey begins.
On Airplanes
In India, almost every airline company follows similar travel policies for all who travelling with their pets with an occasional minor variation.
While Air India, Spice Jet, Jet Airways and Vistara allow only those pets who are at least eight weeks old.
IndiGo and Air Costa only permit travelling with pets who accompany persons with disabilities.
Spice Jet Airlines accommodate pets as freight.
These pets are kept in a temperature controlled, appropriately pressurized area within the plane.
Air India is the only airline which allows a limited number of people’s who travelling with thier pets in the cabin after levying additional charges.
Several cross-bred animals, certain aggressive breeds of cats and dogs may also be prohibited in a number of airlines.
You will be required to procure valid Rabies and Health Vaccination Certificates.
The approval of the flight’s commander is also required.
To make sure if a certain airline association will allow your travelling with pet or not.
It is always safer to ask them in person to rid yourself of any doubt.
In Trains
Flights are not always affordable.
When travelling by train with pet parents who are traveling in a First Class Coach are permitted to bring their pets.
Only if they book either a two-seater berth or a four-seater compartment.
However, if a co-passenger files a complaint against the pet, they may be relocated to the luggage car of the vehicle.
For the ones who are not seated in the First Class Coach,
the pets are kept in the luggage car by default.
Indian Railways do not take any responsibility for feeding your pets.
So if it is a long journey,
you should be prepared for some regular tours to the luggage van to make sure you feed them on time.
Before departure,
you will also be required to register your pet at the railway station’s parcel office.
On the Road
Traveling with pets on a bus may not be a good idea.
While a small number of private luxury bus companies permit travelling with pets.
The state-run buses in this country do not offer any provision for traveling with Pets.
But we advise you against taking pets in the bus.
The space is significantly smaller than the area inside airplanes or trains.
You may have to face the wrath of the intolerant co-passengers, which is not uncommon in India.
Traveling with your furry pets buddy in a car is perhaps the best option.
Not only do you get to keep them right beside you,
your pet will also have more space to be comfortable in.
Pet-friendly Accommodations
Make sure to do your research well in advance and book a resort or a hotel that allows pets.
Many homestays permit pets without charging an additional fee.
It is also wise to look up some pet-friendly restaurants and food joints before deciding on a place.
Planning your itinerary in advance will not only save you from the last-minute hassle.
Will also ensure your pet’s safety and comfort.
So,
worry no more and get ready for a peaceful and fun filled holiday with your pet!
