Whether you are a solo travel junkie or a family tripper, a footloose nomad or a business traveler, a hassle-free journey has to be one of your top priorities. And that is exactly why you need a few travel apps on your smartphone. While there are plenty of apps for international travellers that will work all over the world, there are apps that are specifically meant to help those exploring India.
Here is a selection of six apps that are a must-have both as a traveller and when travelling within India.
Developed in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India, AudioCompass is a free audio guide app that gives you the lowdown on major monuments and attractions in India. It was developed by a group of travellers and today has been recognized by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the must-have apps on your phone. AudioCompass now also includes guides to Singapore, Istanbul, London, Oman, and Bhutan.
Tripigator was by the Ministry of Tourism keeping busy and last-minute travellers in mind. All you have to do is put in your trip duration and budget and the app will suggest itineraries that you can follow as you travel. It has integrated maps and geo-location, which makes everything easy. You can even book packages based on your preferences through this app.
A product from the developers of MapMyIndia, the biggest advantage of NaviMaps is that it works offline. While Google Maps is detailed it is sometimes difficult to get the same information when the internet is weak or non-existent. NaviMaps offers the same details online and this information can be accessed offline as well making it a boon for travellers going to offbeat places in India. It even lets you know of areas congested with traffic in advance and gives you alternate routes. Need more incentives to download this one?
Tripoto Travel App: Plan Trips
This app is a unique one because it has travel itineraries planned by tourists. Not only can you find over a thousand places to visit around the world, you can also create your own blog and share your personal experiences with your fellow travelers. Tripoto is the perfect app for discovering hidden travel destinations, public transportation facilities, and offbeat places. It also provides backpacking ideas, authentic tours, and weekend getaways. Along with information about more than 750000 hotels, restaurants, and homestays in over 250000 travel destinations, Tripoto also gives weather information for over 40000 cities in the world.
PackPoint Travel Packing List
Booking hotels and flights are not the only things to do while planning a vacation. Forgetful as we are, we often tend to leave out a thing or two while packing. PackPoint is a travel packing list organizer that helps you decide what to include in your luggage according to the length of your stay, the weather, and the activities at your destination. It also has a checklist which takes into account whether you are going for a business trip or a leisurely one, if you are willing to repeat clothes, if there is access to laundry facilities, et cetera. Amazing, isn’t it?
Findery – Local Trips and Travel
While out for sightseeing, we often tend to miss out the spots that are not as popular as the others. And that’s where Findery comes in. This app allows you to find new and hidden places from local recommendations, tips, and personal experiences left by the Findery members from all over the world. You can also leave notes about the places you have been to. Findery also has an option which lets you create your own travel bucket list with its “I Want To Go Here” note-map.
Which these apps on your smartphone, you will never be a victim of overpriced hotels and other inconveniences again! Happy travelling!0
