Set in a sleepy little village in Khanapur in Belgaum.
The Hermitage is a 45 acre farm shaded by chikkoo (sapodilla), mango and coconut trees.
An abundant crop of vanilla, pepper, coffee, tea and cacao along with medicinal plants make this farmhouse highly self-sufficient.
Immerse yourself in nature with bulbuls, barbets, parakeets and woodpeckers along with bison, deer and peacocks who all make the Hermitage their home.
Amble along the gentle slopes and a little stream nearby or have a chat with your hosts, David and Morvarid and feel the warmth of their hospitality.
Or go bird watching or trekking.
Hire bikes.
Cycle around the rural areas, chat with the villagers and get a feel of local life.
Short drives to nearby villages to witness local ceremonies or just walk around are also possible.
Try your hand at pottery with local potters or test your culinary skills with Morvarid as she takes you through some Parsi dishes.
Or choose the Kadaba, a typical village home built of bamboo, wood, and mud plaster.
The Gota is one of our favorites, a rural cottage distinctively styled with recycled, handmade village tiles.
The Machan and Kadaba don’t have electricity, so be prepared for the stars.
The Hermitage is also known to whip up some fantastic Anglo Indian food.
Kofta curries, yellow rice, dry fries, and poppadums!
Treat your sweet tooth with home-made wild jamun jam.
